The Daily Search Chat Box Uses

The Daily Search chat box is intended to enhance the users search engine/home page experience. Search related questions and daily commentary on current events and various popular subjects of a non adult nature are encouraged. Due to the nature of the chat application and our inability to monitor it 24 hours a day, content unsuitable to minors or offensive to adults may be encountered. TheDailySearch.com will delete such content when it comes to our attention and ban those users from our site when their ip address can be confirmed. However, TheDailySearch.com assumes no responsibility for your exposure or viewing any objectionable material posted on our site without our knowledge.

Linking Guidelines: Precautions & Practices

i. Clicking Links:
Under no circumstances click on any links posted in the chat box unless you are sure you know and trust the person or if the link is posted by one of TDS's admins. You can confirm you know someone by asking them a question only they would know. Site admin chats will be identifiable as "TDS".

ii. Linking to YouTube Videos:
In order to prevent suspicious linking in our chat box a good practice to learn when referring YouTube videos in chat is to post the YouTube video ID instead of the link. The YouTube video ID is the exclusive and unique identifier for each YouTube video. Once you have the video ID you can copy & paste it in our chat so others can copy it and paste the ID into the search box of our YouTube video player and watch the video right on our site without ever leaving the main page.

Here is how it works:

Step 1.) When watching a YouTube video in our player, click on the arrow box in the lower right hand corner of the player. Another box will then extend up from the arrow. Click on that box.

Step 2.) This will reveal the embed and url codes. The url code is the easiest to work with so our example will use that one. This code is in the lower of the two text boxes with a small chain link icon next to it and the abbreviation "URL". Highlight and copy that code by either clicking in the text box or dragging your mouse cursor over the code. Right click to copy the code. Once you have the code in your clipboard, you'll need a suitably large enough text box to see the whole code at once and extract the unique YouTube video ID. We recommend your browser's address bar. Paste the url code into your browser's bar. It should look like this:

Step 3.) You want to now highlight and copy everything in the highlighted box in the example image above between the "=" sign and the "&" sign.

Step 4.) Now paste just that part of the code (the unique YouTube video ID) into the YouTube video player's search box (NOT the Google or Bing search box!) on The Daily Search main page and click the search magnifier icon or hit "Enter" or "Return" on your keyboard. This will search for and (if it can be embedded) find the video. The video should appear in a little square box in the player. Click on that box to play the video.

Step 5.) If you want to share the video with other people in chat so they can watch it on our main page with you, just paste the same unique YouTube video ID into the chat as a message so your recipient can also view the video using the same instructions for searching a video outlined in "Step 4.)"

If you ignore these guidelines and precautions, all links clicked in the chat box are at your own risk.
